Haki

To me, decolonization looks like Afrofuturism and the unhindered progress of the diaspora and visibility of Black bodies and faces in a humane and loving way.

I primarily work in Afrofuturism but the art I create is labeled under a phrasing I also created called "Satabu", which is a fusion of the words sanaa and kitabu in Swahili which mean art and book respectively. This came from me tiring of us not having our own category within the art world that specifically represents diasporic artists and their creations as a whole.

My work is a piece entitled "Haki", which is part of a 4-piece protection series. It loosely stands for "Truth" and my work displays our true selves uninfluenced and unaffected by societal perversions that stripped us of our higher selves in a more obviously outward sense.
